Biophytum eukador is a rare, miniature tropical plant originating from humid regions of South America. It forms a small rosette of delicate, feathery leaves, giving it a light and very natural appearance, characteristic of the tropical forest floor.
Due to its small size and high environmental requirements, this species is perfectly suited for paludariums, vivariums, and humid terrariums, where stable humidity and temperature can be maintained. It is an ideal choice for the foreground of the arrangement, especially in containers with a tropical character.
Plant Features:
-
miniature tropical plant
-
ideal for paludariums, vivariums, and terrariums
-
delicate, feathery leaves
-
low, compact form
-
collector’s plant for experienced keepers
🌿 Humidity Conditions – Crucial for Growth
Biophytum eukador requires very high and stable air humidity, comparable to conditions found at the soil surface in a tropical rainforest.
-
Optimal humidity: 75–90%
-
Minimum tolerated: approx. 70%
-
Humidity below 65% can cause:
-
rapid wilting of leaves
-
growth inhibition
-
loss of ornamental form
-
In paludariums and vivariums, the plant develops most steadily thanks to a constant microclimate. In a terrarium, gentle and continuous air circulation is recommended to prevent rot and the development of fungal diseases.
⚠️ Warning: Biophytum eukador tolerates drying out very poorly – even brief drops in humidity can lead to leaf damage.
🌱 Other growing requirements
-
Light: bright, indirect (no direct sunlight)
-
Temperature: 22–28°C (minimum 20°C)
-
Substrate: very light, humus-rich, consistently slightly moist
-
Watering: frequent, in small amounts, without waterlogging roots
